Indago participates in the conference “Worldwide resistance and alternatives to free trade”, organized by GUE/NGL.
The European Parliament hosted the conference “Worldwide resistance and alternatives to free trade” on 7th and 8th of December. The event was organized by the European Parliamentary Group of the European United Left/Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL) with the purpose of discussing the effects of free trade agreements adopted by the European Union (such as TTIP or CETA) on the rights of the people, and analysing alternatives and resistance strategies.
Adriana Espinosa, member of Indago, contributed to the first day meeting at the European Parliament with a lecture on the current process to elaborate an international binding instrument on business and human rights in the United Nations. On the second day, Espinosa facilitated a workshop where members of the European Parliament, members of national Parliaments from different European states and civil society organizations discussed abut the content of the future Treaty. The third session of the open-ended intergovernmental Working Group will take place next 23 to 27 of October 2017 in Geneva. The group’s Chair-Rapporteur (currently being hold by the Ecuadorian representative) is expected to present a draft document to be discussed during the meeting.
