The 2015 Analysis examines the quality of the information presented on human and labour rights by the enterprises in their annual reports, sustainability reports and public documents. It concludes that, despite the big words used to express their commitment with human rights, IBEX 35 enterprises fail to inform about the mechanisms adopted to avoid human and labour rights violations in their activities.
“Many commitments, few policies and almost no proceedings” is the analysis’ main conclusion. With a global score of 0.78 over 4, businesses within the IBEX 35 have been found to perform poorly regarding the presentation of information on measures and procedures adopted to avoid the negative impacts of their activities on human rights. Only 4 (ArcelorMittal, Gamesa, Iberdrola y Repsol) out of 35 enterprises provided information on the existence of specific complaint mechanisms to guarantee access to remedy and to human rights victims.
Moreover, only 11 enterprises provide some sort of information on mechanisms implemented to avoid and reduce the aforementioned violations in the course of their direct or indirect activities.
Another important absence detected relates to the lack of country information regarding issues such as equal pay, non discrimination or respect of freedom of association rights or collective negotiation. This turns out to be specially significant in countries where the risk of human rights violations is high and where the IBEX 35 enterprise is present.
